The Azorean sea offers a diversity of species that can be captured by you, such as: lily, grouper, snapper and hogfish.
Hunting through the seas
This activity consists of hunting aquatic species using diving techniques.
In Azores, there are several places suitable for this practice, which have good visibility, good water temperature and large quantities of fish near the coast, although there are limitations:
Spearfishing is only allowed from sunrise to sunset;
It cannot be practiced within 100 meters of places frequently used as bathing areas;
Foreign tourists are subject to the licensing and authorization regime, regardless of their period of stay in the Region.
What are the restrictions for the practice of this activity?
his experience is regulated by the Regional Legislative Decree no. 9/2007/A, of April 19 and requires a personal license, to be issued by the maritime authority of the island where it is practiced (see Normative Dispatch no. 62/2007, of December 21).
It is forbidden to catch:
Grouper (Epinephelus marginatus);
Limpets (all species of the genus Patella);
Seahorse (Hippocampus);
Moonfish (Mola mola);
Marine mammals;
Sea turtles.
Infractions are punished in accordance with the provisions of Chapter VI of Regional Legislative Decree No. 9/2007/A, of April 19.
